How to Grow Chive Plants

When most people think of chives they think of sour cream and baked potatoes. Chives are also tasty in dips, salads and even on sandwiches. Easy to grow and not fussy about their growing conditions, chives can be started indoors and then set outside after germination or sown directly into the soil of your garden.

Instructions

    • 1

      Add soil to pots.

    • 2

Place chive seeds in the soil. Cover with 1 inch of soil and tamp firmly.

    • 3

Keep soil evenly moist. The soil needs to be moist but not wet.

    • 4

Harvest by cutting with scissors. Chives can be harvested at any time once the plant is large enough to be cut. Cutting chives back to within 2 inches of the soil encourages bushy growth.
