Pros of Chemical Fertilizers

Fertilizers are supplements added to soil to improve its nutrient level. This leads to optimal plant health. Chemical or inorganic fertilizers are man-made as opposed to the naturally occurring organic fertilizers such as compost or animal byproducts. Chemical fertilizers have certain advantages over natural fertilizers.
  1. Fast Acting

    • Chemical fertilizers are fast acting and highly water soluble, making required nutrients immediately available for use by plants. Compared to this, organic fertilizers need to break down in the soil first before nutrients are available to plants.

    Ease

    • Chemical fertilizers are easier to use than organic fertilizers. They come in handy containers and bags that make transport easier. They are also lighter in weight and more convenient to spread over larger areas such as lawns.

    Nutrient Content

    • Chemical fertilizers come in various formulations that make it easy to choose the right formula according to specific plant requirements. The essential nutrients -- nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium -- are indicated as NPK on every chemical fertilizer bag.
