Is Red Clover Shade Tolerant?

Red clover is often used as a ground cover for pastures and grazing. It also has medicinal and health benefits, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Red clover grows quickly under nearly all growing conditions.
  1. Growing Conditions

    • Red clover grows in any location with consistently moist, well-drained soil. The plant does not have specific lighting requirements and will grow in the sun, shade or indoors.

    Indoor Growing

    • Grow red clover in window box containers. Keep the soil moist and it will grow well in a kitchen window.

    Ground Cover

    • Plant a substantial amount of seeds in a single layer to create a ground cover, which will reach 8 to 12 inches in height. Alternatively, plant the seeds in patio containers to prevent reseeding in undesirable locations.
