The Planting Dates for Fenugreek in Maryland

Fenugreek is a cooking herb. Its use dates back to at least 1500 B.C. The herb is commonly used for livestock forage and feed and to stimulate milk production for breastfeeding women.
  1. Time Frame

    • Start seed approximately four to six weeks before transplanting outdoors. Plants can be safely transplanted when temperatures stay above 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Fenugreek can be grown indoors year-round.

    Considerations

    • Maryland ranges across five U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones. They range from zone 5B in the west to zone 7B in the east. The temperature difference may be as great as 25 degrees Fahrenheit across the zones.

    Plant Needs

    • Plant fenugreek in mid spring. The plants take 16 to 20 weeks to mature. This Mediterranean herb needs good drainage, a large amount of sunlight and less frequent watering than most herbs.
