The University of Florida Extension lists small-leaf Confederate jasmine, also referred to as Asiatic jasmine and dwarf Confederate jasmine, as a ground cover for Florida that retards the growth of weeds with its thick, mat-like growth.
Asiatic jasmine is a woody, vine-like plant with multiple stems and a mature height of 8 to 12 inches. The low-growing stems and dark-green foliage cover the ground like a mat. There are no noticeable flowers and the plant cannot be propagated with seed, only with stem cuttings.
The shade- and drought-tolerant groundcover is very cold hardy and keeps its color even in very cold weather. The groundcover thrives in areas of low light, where it is usually hard to grow grass. The plant adapts to most soil types but does not do well in soil with pH higher than 8.0.
