How to Make an Inside Herb

Inside herb gardens provide fresh herbs regardless of the season. You can grow almost any herb inside including dill, parsley, sage, cilantro and basil. For those with space restrictions, consider combining multiple herbs into one pot. The only truly essential component for an inside herb garden to thrive is a window that gets at least six hours of sunlight each day.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace the bottom of your plant pot onto a piece of window screen with a pencil.

    • 2

Cut out the shape and place it inside the pot. The window screen will strain out any soil and prevent it from draining onto any interior surfaces.

    • 4

Fill the pot with potting soil, leaving 1 inch of space at the top.

    • 5

Sow your herb seeds into the planting pot according to the directions listed on the seed envelopes. As a general rule, the larger the seed, the deeper it must be buried.

Wet the soil and keep the soil moist until the herbs surface and place at a sunny window. Once the herbs surface, reduce your watering to whenever the top 1/2 inch of the soil is dry or the plants begin wilting.
