Locate a sunny spot with enough room for the number of grape vines you want to plant. The vines should be planted 4 feet apart if they are to be grown on an arbor and 8 feet apart for a trellis.
Set up a trellis or an arbor. Your seedless grapes must have support after the first year. The plants won't be able to grow properly or to produce any fruit without adequate support.
Till the soil well, at least 8 inches deep. The roots on grape vines spread out quickly and will do best if they are planted in prepared soil. Mix aged compost into the tilled soil. Since grape roots grow so quickly, it is best to prepare the entire area rather than just the planting hole.
Dig a hole large enough for the root system. Don't prune the roots, though it is okay to cut back any dead or severely damaged sections.
Set the vine into the hole, and cover the roots with the soil you previously removed. Tamp it down securely, but not with too much force. Water the plant.
Prune the newly planted vine back until it has only a single stem. Prune the stem down to just a few buds. This helps the plant to get off to a good start.
Tie the vine to the arbor or trellis as it grows. Don't tie it so tightly that the plant is damaged, but secure it to the support so that it is held in place.
