How to Store Garlic

Garlic is a spectacular clove that is heart healthy as well. Whether you grow it in your garden or buy it from the store it is always handy to have around to add that extra flavor to your favorite dish when cooking. Here are a few tips on how to store garlic so you can get the most use out of it when cooking!

Instructions

    • 1

Place it in a bowl or container. Garlic needs to be stored in a cool dry place. If you plan on using it in the next couple of weeks, storing it in a loosely covered bowl or container in your pantry will work just fine. Just be sure that it stays out of direct sunlight.

    • 2

Purchase a garlic keeper. These are specially designed containers which have holes in them which allow the air to circulate freely around the garlic. Usually you can fit several bulbs in one.

    • 3

Refrigerate it. If you have a ton of garlic that you won't be able to use right away, consider placing it in a sealed container in the fridge. In fact, many supermarkets are now selling peeled garlic by the pound in their refrigerated section.

    • 4

Freeze the garlic. Although not a common practice, garlic can be frozen and will keep almost indefinitely in this state. Consider freezing garlic if you have an abundance of it, or will be unable to get to a store for long periods of time.
