Planting garlic that has sprouted is an economical way to use the garlic. The individual cloves will create new heads of garlic, increasing your supply.
The garlic bulbs may not grow, particularly if you live in a climate that is different from the garlic's native area. The bulbs may grow in the garden, but the chances of success are better with indoor growing in a window box. If the quality of the original garlic is poor, the resulting garlic heads will also be poor.
Separate the garlic into individual gloves, leaving the papery husk intact. Fill a container with potting soil and plant the bulb sprouted end up 2 inches deep. If you are planting more than one bulb, space the bulbs 6 inches apart. Grow the garlic indoors in a sunny window for best results. Do not plant garlic bulbs that have a musty smell or are rotting.
