Triteleia bulbs do well when planted in fertile, well drained soil. Organic material such as compost, potting soil, mulch and peat moss can be added to improve the drainage of the soil before planting these bulbs. Triteleia flowers tolerate different combinations of these media as long as the soil drains well after heavy watering or rain.
Triteleia bulbs grow best in full sun locations. They should be planted in an open area where they will receive direct sun in the morning or afternoon if not all day long.
Plant the bulbs in the fall and space them far enough apart to give each plant a chance to establish itself without too much competition from neighboring bulbs -- around 4 inches apart, with nine to 10 bulbs planted per square foot. Plant the bottom of the bulb 5 inches below the surface of the soil with the growing point of the bulb (where the sprout is situated) pointing towards the surface of the soil. Gently pat down the soil after planting and water the soil until it is thoroughly soaked to settle the ground around the bulbs.
If planting the bulbs in zone 6 or cooler, spread a few inches of mulch over the surface of the soil to help protect the bulbs from winter damage in colder regions.
