How to Grow Koralle Fuchsia

Fuchsia is a large botanical genus containing more than 100 species of perennial flowering plants known for their gracefully drooping stems and colorful, tubular blossom. Fuchsia x hybrida "Koralle" is a heat-tolerant cultivar with elongated coral blossoms that bloom from spring until the first fall frost. Koralle fuschia performs best in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 9 through 11. Outside of these zones, koralle fuchsia may be grown as an annual; you can also grow it in a container and overwinter it indoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Set koralle fuchsia in your garden bed or planting container at the same depth that it grew in the nursery. Plant or position the fuchsia in a partial shade location that receives bright but filtered sunlight for at least six hours per day, to ensure a profusion of flowers.

    • 2

Water koralle fuchsia weekly spring through summer, while the plants are in their active growth and blooming phases. Provide up to 1 inch of supplemental irrigation per week. Reduce the amount of irrigation during weeks that receive heavy rainfall; koralle fuchsia performs best in soil that's moist, but well-drained.

    • 3

Fertilize koralle fuchsia regularly to keep plants vigorous and encourage continuous blooming. Feed the plants with a half-strength application of a water-soluble, high-phosphorus fertilizer every three weeks from planting through mid-July. Consult the application and rate instructions on the package when fertilizing your fuchsia.

Watch koralle fuchsia plants for infestations of pests such as aphids or spider mites. Rinse pests from the fuchsia with a directed stream of water from a garden house. Treat plants with a garden insecticide product if the problem persists.
