How to Install a Hook for a Hanging Plant Basket

Hanging plant baskets give you a way to bring vegetation into a small space. They also work well in lieu of a chandelier over a kitchen table. Line several hanging baskets along your patio to add shade and color to the porch, or cluster them for a more organic look. Always install hanging hooks into a ceiling joist so the hook can hold the plant's weight.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a ceiling joint to install your hook. Use a stud finder, or knock on the ceiling for a solid area.

    • 2

Mark the area you're hanging the basket with a pencil. Drill a hole the same diameter as the screw hook you're using to hang the basket. Hold a flat piece of paper above your head to keep the dust from your eyes, or wear protective eye wear.

    • 3

Turn the ceiling hook clockwise to thread it into the ceiling. Turn until the thread is completely embedded.

    • 4

Hang an s-hook on the ceiling hook by slipping the top loop over the hook.

    • 5

Hang the basket on the s-hook using its hanging loop. Adjust the suspension ropes or hanging planter as necessary to hang the basket straight.
