How to Keep Narcissus Straight in a Pot

Narcissus plants produce showy flowers on slender stems, and over time, you may notice that the stem is growing crooked or is weighed down by the weight of the flower. This produces a plant with an unattractive droopy look. To encourage your narcissus plant to grow straight in the pot, look to exterior supports to give the plant the look that it needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Drive a ¼- or 1/8-inch garden stake into the potting soil directly next to the plant’s stem. The garden stake should be driven in firmly enough to stand upright, and the tip of the stake should come within 2 inches of the flower. Instead of using garden stakes, you can also use wooden dowels cut to the appropriate length.

    • 2

Cut several strips of fabric that are about ½ inch wide and 5 inches long using a pair of scissors. For a tidy look, use strips cut from an old T-shirt, as they will not fray.

    • 3

Tie the stem of the narcissus to the garden stake, spacing the ties out every 3 to 4 inches. The stake supports the narcissus’s stem and keeps it straight, while using fabric strips avoids damage to the stem.
