Choose a good location for your rose gentian. These plants do well in rock gardens or in naturally wet environments, such as near a pond. They prefer full sunlight but can grow in partial sun. Rose gentians are less picky about the soil type, so long as the environment is moist.
Turn over the soil with a spade to prepare the ground for planting your rose gentian. . Remove roots and debris from the ground; rocks can remain.
Dig a shallow trench 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in your garden bed.
Lay gentian seeds in the trench, leaving 2 to 4 inches between seeds. Cover the seeds with soil, gently firming the soil over the trench, to plant the seeds.
Water the soil to moisten. Continue to keep the soil moist until the gentian seeds germinate and grow.
Keep the soil under the growing rose gentians always moist. If the soil dries out to the touch, the plants will suffer.
Fertilize the plants with a water soluble slow release fertilizer to promote growth. Use a balanced fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, and apply the proper dose range based on the size of your garden bed. To apply, mix the fertilizer with water following the dose range, and water the garden bed with the fertilizer mix.
