Select a lightly shaded site for this plant, such as underneath a tree. This orchid enjoys morning sun and can tolerate up to 50 percent shade.
Prepare the ground for planting by turning over the soil and breaking apart soil clumps. Make a hole twice the size of your Chinese ground orchid's root ball.
Remove the orchid from its container and place the plant in the prepared hole. Fill in the hole with soil around the orchid to complete the planting. After planting, water the earth until saturated; the soil will compact around the plant.
Mulch the plant with 1 to 2 inches of compost, leaves or another mulch substance. This helps retain moisture.
Water the ground orchid at least once a week until the soil becomes saturated. Omit the weekly watering in periods of heavy rainfall.
Cut back stalks when they finish flowering to maintain an attractive plant. In the late fall, cut all stems back to ground level as part of your garden cleanup.
