Keep the soil wet, to a depth of 6 inches, at all times. It can also be grown in a boggy environment with its roots under water. If the soil dries out the plant will drop its leaves and flowers.
Add 2 inches of mulch to the soil around the garden-planted marsh marigolds to help retain moisture. Pine needles are the ideal mulch for this plant.
Fertilize the marsh marigold in spring, just prior to it producing new growth, but only if it failed to thrive the previous season. Marsh marigolds generally don't require fertilizer. Use a water-soluble 10-10-10 fertilizer, at the rate listed by the fertilizer manufacturer.
