How to Germinate Perennial Coreopsis

Perennial coreopsis plants grow best in United States Department of Agriculture zones five through 10. The coreopsis flowers, also known as tickseed, have a long blooming season that lasts from April to September. The flowers are golden yellow or pale white. The plants are propagated by either dividing the root crowns or germinating the seeds. The seeds usually are germinated outdoors directly in the flowerbed and begin to grow within two to three weeks.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare soil for perennial coreopsis seeds in a location that receives full sunlight. The coreopsis prefers lean and sandy soils, but it will grow in most well-drained soils.

    • 2

Allow the soil temperature to reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit before you plant the perennial coreopsis seeds outdoors.

    • 3

Sow the coreopsis seeds 1/8 inch deep into the soil.

    • 4

Cover the seeds with 1/16 inch of soil. Space the seeds 12 to 18 inches apart.

    • 5

Water the seeds with a watering can to keep the soil damp. Continue to water the soil and never allow it to dry out completely.
