How to Grow Forget-Me-Nots at Home in a Pot

Shade-loving forget-me-nots, also known as M. sylvatica, will thrive in pots on your porch or back patio. Growing them from seed is not difficult, and you'll be rewarded with an abundance of small blossoms in pink, blue or white, all with yellow centers. These perennials grow to reach 18 to 24 inches high and do best in well-drained soil. Flower pots are an ideal environment for your forget-me-nots to thrive in.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the flower pot with planting soil. Press it down firmly with your hands. Leave around one inch between the top of the soil and the top of the flower pot rim. Add or remove soil as necessary.

    • 2

Press forget-me-not seeds into the soil, about one-eighth inch deep. Plant the seeds approximately four inches apart. Continue around the surface of the soil until you've planted a circle of seeds.

    • 3

Water the seeds immediately. Keep the soil moist but not soaking wet by watering lightly and frequently. Place the flower pot in a partially shaded area on your patio or porch.

    • 4

Thin the seedlings after they are about three inches tall. Pull out all but the most vigorous. Generally, two to three plants per gallon pot allows enough room for the roots to thrive.

    • 5

Give the potted plants a dose of liquid fertilizer after the seedlings are established, approximately two months after sprouting.
