Instructions

    • 1

Locate the wild ginger growing in the woods. Wild ginger grows about 4 to 6 inches tall with medium-green leaves in a large heart shape. Wild ginger blooms in spring with distinctive three-petaled flowers in a dark maroon color.

    • 2

Insert the tip of the garden trowel into the soil between two wild ginger plants. Push the tip of the trowel into the soil and then locate the roots of the ginger plant.

    • 3

Cut about 2 inches of root system from the wild ginger plant using the pruning shears. Place the root in the bucket.

    • 4

Firm the soil back down with your hands to cover the roots again.

    • 5

Repeat the same process at another spot about 2 to 3 feet away in the wild ginger patch.

    • 6

Harvest wild ginger twice a year from the same patch.
