If you plan on growing the Buzzy parsley in the garden, get a head start on the growing season by starting the seeds indoors, six to eight weeks before the last frost date in your region. It is also possible to start them directly in the garden after the last frost. Although germination time varies according to the type of parsley, under ideal conditions Buzzy parsley is ready to harvest six weeks after planting the seed.
Directly sown seeds require a prepared seedbed to get off to a strong start. Loose soil makes it easier for the young seedling's roots to grow, so dig up the planting area and loosen the soil. Add 2 to 3 inches of compost to supply nutrients and help aerate heavy soil. If you plan on growing the Buzzy parsley in a container, use a commercial seed-starting soil mix in a container with lots of drainage holes in the bottom.
Parsley seeds germinate quicker if they are soaked overnight in warm water. An ideal way to do this is in a thermos, which keeps the water consistently warm. Plant the seeds immediately upon removal from the warm-water soak. Buzzy parsley seeds require light to germinate so place them on the surface of the soil and sprinkle no more than 1/8-inch of soil or sand over them. Use a spray bottle with a fine mist setting to moisten the top layer of soil.
Keep the soil moist at all times while the seeds germinate. Be careful not to overwater the newly emerged seedlings to avoid damping off, a fungal disease. As the seedlings grow, supply water once a week, to a depth of 6 inches if planted in the garden. Water until the excess runs from the bottom of the container for potted parsely plants. Thin the Buzzy parsley seedlings when they reach 3 inches in height. Remove the weakest of the seedlings from the planting area until the remaining seedlings are spaced 12 inches apart.
