How to Grow Black Pearl Peppers Indoors

Black pearl peppers are low-maintenance edibles that can be grown indoors, regardless of the season. These extremely hot peppers thrive in containers, according to the University of Missouri, as long as they have well-drained soil. The plant's glossy black leaves cover branches that can sprout as high as 18 inches. Black pearl peppers are shiny and round. They begin to appear when the plant reaches maturity; as each pepper ages, it turns red.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the clay pot by rinsing it thoroughly with water. Fill the pot with potting soil. Leave the soil loose; do not pack it into the pot.

    • 2

Sprinkle black pearl pepper seeds over the surface of the soil. Use four to six seeds per square inch of surface soil.

    • 3

Press the seeds into the soil. Do not force them into the soil, but apply slight pressure to each seed to ensure it is snugly surrounded by soil.

    • 4

Water the seeds. Put a small amount of water on the surface of the soil and allow it to soak in. If nothing comes from the drainage holes and the soil still appears dry, add more until the soil is moist and springy to the touch. If water runs from the drainage holes, you have used too much water.

    • 5

Stretch clear plastic wrap over the top of the pot. Place the pot in a warm, sunny windowsill or on the floor near a large window.

    • 6

Water the soil daily and re-cover the pot with plastic wrap after each watering. When you see sprouts, discard the plastic wrap. Continue to water the sprouts daily as they grow into fully mature black pearl pepper plants.
