How to Grow Grapes in Pottery

Grapevines enhance the beauty of your patio or garden while also providing you with fruit for the table, for jam or for wine. While grapes grow every well in the garden, you can also grow them in the home or on the deck by placing them in pots. Even if you have limited space, a potted grapevine allows you to enjoy the beauty and fruit of these graceful plants.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a 10-gallon clay pot with potting soil. The pot should have holes at the bottom, allowing for good drainage.

    • 2

Push 12-inch grapevine cuttings into the soil, leaving one node of leaves sticking out from the top.

    • 3

Place the pot in an area where it will receive at least eight hours of sun every day.

    • 4

Water the soil every other day. Avoid watering it if the soil is damp to the touch.

    • 5

Push two or three garden stakes into the soil beside the cutting.

    • 6

Tie the vine to the stakes with garden twine when it starts to grow.

    • 7

Pinch off any brown or withered leaves you see.
