Place the celestial fig's container in an area that receives sunshine all day. It's important not to allow the pot to heat up, though, so provide shade at the soil level.
Water the containerized Celeste fig tree carefully. Too much water causes splits in the fruit. Young Celeste trees require more water in the first year -- enough to keep the soil slightly moist. Mature trees can be allowed to dry out but watered during periods when there is no rain for two weeks. Water until it drains from the bottom of the container.
Fertilize the potted Celeste fig tree for the first time in spring, after the last frost. Combine equal parts of 0-20-0 fertilizer, 5-10-5 fertilizer, bone meal and garden lime. Create four 3-inch-deep, 1-inch-wide holes at the container's perimeter. Add the fertilizer mixture to the holes until they are full. Water the fig tree slowly, until water seeps from the bottom of the pot.
Feed the fig tree again one month later with a 20-20-20 fertilizer. Use 1 tablespoon liquid fertilizer in one gallon of tap water, mix well and drench the soil with the solution. Reapply, at the same rate, every three weeks until the middle of August.
Replace the soil with fresh soil every three years. This may be a good time to root prune the Celeste fig to keep it to its current size. Slice 1 inch off the bottom of the rootball and remove 1 inch from around the outside. Replant it in the fresh soil.
Take the Celeste into a greenhouse or other area where the temperature remains above freezing during the winter.
