With over 30 species, the cotton plant is generally shaped like a pyramid or cone and often reaches heights of 3 to 6 feet depending on the region in which it is grown.
Due to the warm climate needs of the cotton plant, the majority of the world's cotton supply is produced in the United States and China. Cotton is also grown in Turkey, Pakistan, India and Brazil.
The growing season of the cotton plant averages 180 to 200 days. Plenty of water and sunshine is required for the plants to grow successfully.
Cotton plants are harvested as early as July to as late as November depending on the region and are harvested with the use of machines that use air systems to gently pick the cotton.
After the cotton is harvested, it is dried and cleaned in order to remove debris such as twigs, leaves, and dirt. Fibers are then separated and packed into bales.
