Loosen the soil 6 inches deep with a spade or tiller. Break up large dirt clumps and use a rake to smooth the soil.
Broadcast 12-12-12 fertilizer at a rate of 3 to 4 lbs. for every 100 square feet of garden space. Mix the fertilizer with the top layer of soil.
Sow the seeds 2 inches deep in sandy soil and 1 inch deep in heavier soil. Leave 8 to 10 inches of space between each seed and 2 to 3 feet between rows.
Provide the plants with supplemental water when less than an inch of rain falls in a week. Water until the soil feels lightly moist at a depth of 6 inches.
Cultivate around the stalks using a garden hoe to remove weeds. Avoid digging deeply so that roots aren't disturbed.
Feed with nitrogen fertilizer when trucker white corn plants are between 12 and 18 inches high. Sprinkle the fertilizer beside each plant, in the amount directed on the package. Scrape it into the surface of the soil and water deeply.
