How to Make Homemade Cactus Succulent Potting Mix

Cacti and succulent plants differ from other plants since most of them store water and typically survive for long periods under extremely dry conditions. Growing cacti and succulents in pots require repotting after the plants outgrow their present one. These plants require a well-draining soil that doesn’t retain water for any length of time. A good soil mix for cactus and succulents contains equal parts of a compost component, horticultural sand and a grit component.
