How to Grow a Zebra Cactus

The zebra cactus, known scientifically as Haworthia attentuata, is a member of a large family of succulent plants that are adored as houseplants for their low maintenance and unique leaf structures. The cactus resembles a small aloe vera plant with darker green leaves and large, variegated white lines transversing each leaf that resemble zebra stripes.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your pot halfway with standard quality potting soil, then place the zebra cactus in the pot. Add another thin layer of soil to cover cactus root structures.

    • 2

Place the potted cactus near a window where it receives partial light, ideally three to four hours of daily direct light. Zebra cactus prefers nighttime temperatures around 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3

Water the cactus only when soil is completely dried out -- only once or twice a week. During spring and summer, water two to three times a week.

    • 4

Fertilize the zebra cactus twice a year, in April and July, with a low-nitrogen, water-soluble fertilizer.
