How to Replant an African Milk Cactus

The African Milk Cactus, also known as the African Milk Tree is often sold as an indoor plant, due to it's interesting shape and ease of care. While the white and green foliage is nice to look at, handling the plant can cause skin irritation, due to a milky sap it excretes. Replanting the African Milk Cactus need not be painful or dangerous, as long as the proper precautions are taken.

Fold an entire newspaper in half, and in half again, to create a very thick cushion. Wrap the newspaper around the base of the plant. Hold the newspaper tightly, and pull straight up.

Place the plant gently in the new pot, and remove the newspaper wrap. Pour a small amount of potting soil in another sheet of newspaper. Pull up the ends of the newspaper to create a U-shape chute. Pour the soil around the plant until the pot is filled.
