Prepare the soil for the blueberries. Pick a sunny area to plant the blueberries. Plant in the beginning of the warm season in soft soil. Mulch can be added to the soil to make it soft and provide optimum drainage.
Soak the roots of the blueberry plants in water for two to three hours before planting.
Dig a 20 inch deep by 20 inch wide hole for each blueberry plant. Plant each blueberry plant two feet apart. Fill the hole to just below five inches from the top with a mixture of half peat moss and half top soil.
Put one blueberry plant in each prepared hole and cover the roots with a mixture of half peat moss and half top soil. Gently pat down the peat moss and top soil mixture over the roots, making sure all of the roots are fully covered. Pile more peat moss and top soil mixture around the base of the plant in a circle to form a mound.
Water the blueberry plants immediately after planting with enough water to saturate but not flood the soil.
Keep the blueberry plants regularly watered to keep them moist, being careful not to flood them.
Pull any weeds that grow next to and around the blueberry plants.
Stop watering the plants during the cold winter months unless the soil is very dry.
Wait one to two years for blueberries to bloom and enjoy the bounty of blueberries from your garden. Blueberries are ready to be picked when they are a deep blue color.
