Chinese jujube or Chinese date (Zizyphus jujuba) is well adapted to the weather in Lawrenceville since the trees are quite winter hardy. The self fertile trees bloom late in spring and hence are protected from spring frosts which could affect fruit production. The plum sized fruit with a white flesh and thin edible skin grows on drought hardy, open branched tree which grows to a mature height of about 40 feet. Mature trees need fewer amounts of phosphorus and potassium.
