Several insects commonly afflict blueberry bushes, including blueberry tip borers, scales and fruit worms. Small infestations do not cause serious problems, but more severe instances can be dealt with through insecticide application.
Common diseases of blueberry bushes include powdery mildew, leaf spots, Phytophthora root rot, and blights. Some diseases respond well to chemical controls such as fungicides, while others simply require pruning of infected branches.
Birds such as robins and crows are pests of blueberries, though homeowners may appreciate the birds attracted to the yard by a blueberry bush. If you prefer to keep the blueberries for yourself, simply cover the plants with netting to deter birds.
