How to Make Fertilizer for Acid Loving Blueberries

If you want to produce healthy blueberry bushes, your soil pH must be between 4.0 and 4.5. If you find that your soil is too basic and want to raise its acidity, you can do so by adding fertilizer. Rather than buying an expensive commercial fertilizer, you can make your very own by using common household items.

Instructions

    • 1

Line a cookie sheet completely with newspaper. Avoid tearing the paper as you line the cookie sheet or you may have problems during the drying process. Spread your coffee grounds over the newspaper in an even layer.

    • 2

Place the coffee grounds in the oven and set it to 150 degrees. Leave them in the oven for about an hour, or until they are completely dry.

    • 3

Allow the grounds to cool. You can pour the grounds into a container of your choice once they have sufficiently cooled.

    • 4

Sprinkle the dry coffee grounds around the bushes that lack the necessary acidity for proper growth. The coffee grounds will raise the acidity of the soil. Check the pH level of the soil around your blueberry bush to make sure that it is now at the correct acidity.
