Can I Use Banana Peels as Fertilizer for Blueberry Bushes?

Blueberries grow on compact bushes in all areas of the United States, but do best in areas where they get cold winters and hot summers. These bushes require highly acidic soil, with plenty of organic matter. Use kitchen waste like banana peels directly in the soil or in compost bins for blueberries.
  1. Banana Peels

    • Banana peels contain phosphorous and potassium, and will break down over time to add those nutrients to the soil around a plant.

    Blueberry Growing Needs

    • Blueberries are particularly fond of organic matter, and require high amounts of rich organic nutrition in their soil. The bushes won't grow or thrive in soil that is poor or alkaline.

    Bananas as Fertilizer

    • Gardeners can turn banana peels directly into the soil around their blueberry plants for a dose of direct nutrition, or add the banana peels to the compost bin for a more balanced dose of vitamins and minerals.
