How to Build an Outside Enclosure for Blueberries and Protect Them From Birds

Birds can be a constant source of frustration for the home gardener, especially when trying to grow a crop of berries. Jays, crows and robins seem to materialize out of the sky to pounce on a newly ripened bounty of blueberries. Gardeners have had varying levels of success using scarecrows or flapping lengths of mylar tape to keep away the feathered thieves; however, the only sure-fire way to protect your precious blueberry bushes from birds is to install a simple enclosure over the berries, constructed of stakes and plastic mesh netting.
