How to Get Seeds From a Strawberry

Crush the berries by pressing them against the walls of a glass bowl with the back of a soup spoon until the berries form a chunky puree.

Spoon the puree into a kitchen sieve, and gently press the mixture against the sieve, forcing the pulp through, but leaving the seeds inside the sieve. You'll need to press firmly enough to force the strawberry flesh through the wire mesh, but not so hard as to crush, scrape or damage the seeds.

Rinse the seeds with a gentle flow of water from a kitchen faucet or sprayer to clean off the remaining pulp. Use a slow trickle of water rather than a forceful stream, or you may wash the seeds up the sides and out of the sieve. Stir the seeds as you rinse them to assure that you wash away all the pulp.

Drain all excess water from the seeds. Rest the sieve across the rim of the glass bowl for an hour to allow all the water to drip out.

Spread the seeds on a clean plate or tray, and put them in a warm, dry place. It can take up to a week for the seeds to dry. You'll know the seeds are completely dry when they no longer stick together.

Label the envelope with a pen. Slide the seeds from the plate or tray into the envelope and seal it.
