Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local nursery to select blackberry plants. Talk to a knowledgeable salesperson regarding the different types of blackberry plants and which may be right for you. Blackberries come in two basic types--erect and trailing.

    • 2

Choose the correct area to plant your blackberries. The ground should drain well and be exposed to full sun for at least eight to 10 hours each day.

    • 3

Space trailing plants 4 to 10 feet apart in a row. Space the rows 8 to 10 feet apart. Use a yardstick to measure distances or walk the distance using your feet as a measuring device.

    • 4

Space erect plants 2 feet apart. Space rows 8 to 10 feet apart.

    • 5

Dig shallow holes with a diameter that holds the entire roots. Place blackberry plants in holes and cover to a depth the same as they were in the nursery.

    • 6

Press soil firmly over hole and fill with water.
