Blackberries are ready to pick in Maine from mid-July through August. The berries are ripe when they are plump, firm and fully black. Picking times can vary depending on spring and early summer weather conditions.
Many Maine farms provide "pick-your-own" blackberry patches. These farms provide containers and generally sell the berries by the pound. Farms that allow pick-your-own berries include Christmas Farm in Buxton, Spiller Farm in Wells, Moosehorn Farms in Abbot and King Farms in Weld.
Wild blackberries ripen in Maine from mid-summer to early fall. They will be found growing in thickets in partial shade along roadsides and trail edges, in woodlands, on mountains, in fields, and near the seashore.
