Triple-Crown Blackberry Disease Resistance

Triple Crown blackberry plant, released by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1996, is named for its three crowning attributes -- flavor, productivity and vigor. It is a highly disease-resistant variety of blackberry.
  1. Description

    • A semi-erect variety of blackberry, Triple-Crown bears large, juicy, sweet fruits with an excellent flavor. Triple-Crown grows to a height of 4 to 8 feet, with a spread of 2 to 3 feet. It is winter hardy and bears fruit mid to late season.

    Disease Resistance

    • Triple Crown blackberry is extremely disease resistant. It is capable of withstanding some of the more common diseases that affect blackberry plants, such as botrylis blight, orange rust and powdery mildew.

    Post-harvest Rots

    • A study performed by the University of Arkansas Fruits Substation in Clarksville found Triple Crown proved to be nearly 60 percent resistant to fruit rots, comparing favorably with Kiowa and Navaho varieties of blackberries.
