Spacing of Raspberry Bushes

Raspberries are a versatile berry that stands up to jams, jellies, sauces and freezing. Most raspberry crops are ripe and prepared for picking just after strawberry plants turn ripe. Contributing vitamins A and C, they are a source of vitamins with bright, fresh flavor. Proper planting of your raspberries and 2 years of growing time will net you a crop of berries that will return for several years.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a planting area that receives full sunlight for 6 to 8 hours per day. Raspberries need full sun to thrive. Create a raised planting bed to increase drainage if your soil retains water.

    • 2

Place your raspberry plants in row with 2 to 3 feet between each plant. Reducing the space between the plants may hinder berry production or suffocate plant roots.

    • 3

Create multiple rows, if necessary, with 10 feet between each row.

    • 4

Add supports, if necessary, for large-growth bushes. Keep weeds out of the areas between the plants for best plant health and berry production.
