Position a planter in a sunny indoor spot, such as a window that has a western or southern exposure, with a temperature that ranges consistently between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Ensure the planter has drainage holes in the bottom. Make sure the planter is 20 inches high and 24 to 36 inches wide.
Fill the planter with potting soil that is light weight and drains well.
Plant seeds in a row, 1 inch deep. Space seeds 7 to 9 inches apart. Water the soil until evenly moist and spread a layer of organic mulch (grass clippings, dried leaves or straw) over the top of the container. Continue watering lightly until germination, which occurs between 10 days and two weeks after planting.
Feed the beans a well-balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month. Follow label directions for application.
Set up lattice or tepee trellis, 5 feet to 6 feet tall, or insert poles in the planter when the seedlings develop two to four leaves. Make a lattice-work bamboo trellis by securing intersecting horizontal and vertical poles to each other with leashing cord. Position the trellis just behind the seedlings and train growing tendrils to climb it.
Harvest pods that are firm regularly for a constant supply. Pluck from the plant and collect in a bowl.
