Collect soil samples from the green bean garden bed. Mix the samples. Allow the soil to dry. Deliver the sample to your local agricultural extension service for analysis.
Prepare the green bean garden bed by cultivating it with the rototiller to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. Remove all rocks and errant vegetation with the garden rake.
Apply the recommended fertilizer and organic materials to the bed based upon the soil test results. Incorporate the materials into the soil with the rototiller.
Install one of the 6-foot metal posts at one end of the green bean growing bed. Place the center of the post in the middle of the bed. Drive the post into the soil with the hammer. Install the second post approximately 10 feet from the first, down the center of the growing bed on the opposite end.
Attach the woven wire fence to the metal posts with the 8-inch piece of wire. Wrap the wire around the metal post and through the openings of the woven fencing. Use three pieces of wire per post.
Make a shallow furrow, using the handle of the garden rake, down both sides of the woven wire fence approximately 1 inch deep.
Plant the pole bean seeds in the two furrows 6 inches apart. Cover the seeds with soil.
Keep all weeds pulled from the beans as they emerge from the soil. Layer 2 inches of organic mulch around the plants as they begin to climb the woven wire trellis. Keep the soil moist.
