Most pinto bean plant varieties are vine-like, indeterminate types and grow to about 1 1/2 feet tall. Some varieties are determinate -- bush types that will grow low to the ground.
If growing pinto beans for a small home garden, it is best to trellis them for support. When grown in large quantities, they can be planted close enough to support each other and trellising is less necessary.
Pinto bean plants require about 90 to 100 days from planting to harvesting. Flowering occurs near the midway point and bean production then follows.
