Depending on the variety and growing conditions, pole beans may grow 5 to 10 feet tall. Pole beans require support for optimal growth. You can create a tepee-shaped support from eight poles placed in a circle and fastened together at the top. The pole bean support should be 5 to 8 feet tall.
Depending on the variety and the growing conditions, bush beans grow 1 to 3 feet tall. They are easy to grow and don't require any poles for support.
If you are short on garden space, consider planting pole beans. They will yield two to three times more beans than bush varieties will in the same amount of space.
