Sieva Pole Beans

Sieva is a variety of lima bean better known as butter bean. It sends out vines that can reach up to 10 feet, and bears green pods with white beans.
  1. Planting

    • The ideal time to plant sieva pole beans is when the soil temperature reaches 65 F. Inexpensive soil thermometers are available online and in garden centers and nurseries.

    Care

    • Sieva pole beans require a steady supply of fertilizer throughout the growing season. A 5-10-15 formula is ideal and should be applied for the first time as soon as the beans sprout.

    Harvest

    • Harvest the sieva pole beans when the pods are plump and green. Use your fingers to lightly pinch the ends of the pods -- they should be soft.
