Sieva is a variety of lima bean better known as butter bean. It sends out vines that can reach up to 10 feet, and bears green pods with white beans.

The ideal time to plant sieva pole beans is when the soil temperature reaches 65 F. Inexpensive soil thermometers are available online and in garden centers and nurseries.
Care

Sieva pole beans require a steady supply of fertilizer throughout the growing season. A 5-10-15 formula is ideal and should be applied for the first time as soon as the beans sprout.
Harvest

Harvest the sieva pole beans when the pods are plump and green. Use your fingers to lightly pinch the ends of the pods -- they should be soft.
