Dampness can cause black spot disease in basil plants. Black spots on a basil plant can also be caused by a fungus called Colletotrichum, commonly referred to as "black spot disease." This fungus thrives in wet, damp climates and on plants that are overwatered or whose leaves do not dry thoroughly after being watered. To prevent this disease, use a fungicide regularly and keep basil foliage as dry as possible
