Varieties of Petunia Ramblin

Petunia Ramblin', a series of trailing petunias bred by Syngenta Horticulture, comes in a range of jewel tones. The plants, which have long flowering stems, have a mounded and spreading habit, making them a good choice for hanging baskets, containers and wall plantings. They have been bred for early-season bloom and heat tolerance.
  1. Characteristics

    • Petunia Ramblin' varieties grow 10 to 14 inches tall and spread to 3 feet wide. Their blooms grow 1 to 2 inches across and sit atop the foliage. The plants begin to bloom in early spring, despite the short day length, as they have been bred to be day-neutral. The flowers have a slight fragrance.

    Culture

    • Petunias are annuals grown for their vibrant colors. They need full sun, rich soil and regular water and fertilizer. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem of young plants to encourage branching. Most often grown in pots for summer color, Petunia Ramblin' doesn't require deadheading of the spent flowers -- a boon to busy gardeners. The plants bloom all summer until killed by frost.

    Single Colors

    • The newest color for 2011 is Sugar Plum, a bright purple with deep purple veining. The rest of the colors that make up the series are Burgundy Chrome, Lavender, Lilac Glow, Neon Rose, Nu Blue (a deep purple), Peach Glow, Pink, Red, Salmon Capri, Scarlet, Shades o' Pink, Violet and White.

    Mixtures

    • The petunia series is also sold in several mixtures. Calypso Mix includes Neon Rose, Peach Glow and Salmon Capri. Razzleberry Mix includes Burgundy Chrome, Lilac Glow and Nu Blue. Other mixtures are Cool Berry Mix (burgundy and lavender), Cotton Candy Mix (Lilac Glow and Salmon Capri) and Ramblin' Mix (pink, white and lavender).
