Fill the seed-starting tray to the top with potting soil. Lightly spray the potting soil with water from the spray bottle slightly moistening it.
Place seeds onto the top of the soil, spacing them about 3 inches apart, or place one seed in each individual seed-starting tray cell. Pressing each seed lightly into the soil with your finger ensures adequate contact with the soil.
Place the seed-starting tray in a location with temperatures about 70 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal germination. The seeds should germinate within two weeks. Spray the potting soil as often as necessary keeping it evenly moist.
Cultivate the outdoor growing area with the garden spade loosening the soil down to a depth of about 4 inches. Add 1 to 2 inches of aged compost over the soil and mix the two media well with the garden spade. Rake the soil surface smooth.
Transplant the seedlings outdoors after the final spring frost, spacing them about 1.5 feet apart.
