How to Grow Honesty (Lunaria Annua)

One of the most intriguing of flowers, this plant produces glittering, paperlike disks that earn it its other name: money plant. Technically a biennial, this plant grows one year and produces flowers (and the much-valued disks) the next. It makes an excellent dried flower.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a site in full sun with average, well-drained soil.

    • 2

Sow seeds outdoors in early spring directly into the soil. In USDA zones 8 to 11, sow in fall for bloom the following summer.

    • 3

      Keep soil evenly moist.

    • 4

Let honesty planted in spring overwinter so it can fulfill its life cycle and produce disks the following year. (If planted in fall, honesty will produce disks the following summer.)

    • 5

Tear out and discard plants in fall, after frost fells them.
