Petunias are annuals with large colorful flowers that come in both solid and striped shades. They don't tolerate frost and should be planted outside after the danger of frost. As with most flowering plants, removing wilting blossoms will encourage new flowers. Occasionally it is necessary to trim the petunia plants, especially when the petunia has stretched across the yard and few flowers are on the stems.
