Instructions

  1. Gardening

    • 1

Select the colors you'd like in your garden. Pansies grow in dozens of colors and can be found in almost any garden or plant store. When selecting potted pansies, look for dark leaves and established roots. Consider buying seeds, which can be planted directly into the ground or started indoors before being transplanted to your garden.

    • 2

Plant your pansies during early spring in temperatures above 45 degrees F. Pansies prefer well-drained and rich soil. They flourish best in full to partial light and mild to warm climates.

    • 3

Sow seeds or plants at least 6 inches apart. Planting your flowers closer together will make your bed look fuller, but planting them 6 inches apart helps circulation and the growth of your plants. Cover seeds or stems with about 1/8 inch of soil.

    • 4

Water your pansies thoroughly and add a basic plant fertilizer.

    • 5

Continue to water your pansies to keep your plants healthy. Adding mulch will keep your the soil moist. Raising your flower bed about 10 inches higher than the surrounding turf improves drainage.
